In the late afternoon, the riverbanks become more active, with chances to observe monkeys moving through the trees, riverside birds returning before nightfall, turtles near the water and capybaras feeding along the shore.

After sunset, the Tambopata River changes completely. Using flashlights, we'll continue navigating quietly in search of Spectacled Caimans, also known as White Caimans, whose eyes reflect along the riverbanks after dark. This nocturnal river activity is one of the best ways to experience the Tambopata rainforest at night, when capybaras, caimans and other nocturnal wildlife become more active near the water before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 2 – Canopy Tower, Canopy Walkways & Yacumama Lake

Following breakfast, we'll explore the Amazon from above at the Canopy Tower and suspended Canopy Walkways. This part of the tour gives a different perspective of the rainforest because many birds and mammals spend much of their time in the upper forest layers. This is not presented as a generic cultural show; it is a chance to learn directly about family history, traditional knowledge, handicrafts, medicinal plants, hunting tools and the relationship that the Harakbut people have maintained with the rainforest for generations in the Peruvian Amazon.

Later, we'll travel to Lake Sandoval, one of the most recognized natural attractions inside the Tambopata National Reserve. To reach the lake, we'll walk approximately 3 kilometers through primary rainforest, a trail where the journey is part of the experience. Along this route, there are opportunities to observe Brown Capuchin Monkeys, Squirrel Monkeys, colorful birds, butterflies and, with some luck, sloths resting in the trees.

Upon reaching the lake area, the landscape changes into an impressive Palm Swamp Forest, one of the habitats that makes Lake Sandoval so special. From here, we'll board a traditional rowing canoe to explore the lake quietly in search of emblematic Amazon wildlife such as Giant River Otters, Black Caimans, Hoatzins, turtles, kingfishers, herons, monkeys and aquatic birds. This section connects primary rainforest, flooded palm forest and oxbow lake habitats inside the Tambopata National Reserve, making Day 3 one of the strongest wildlife days of the itinerary.

Day 4 – Parrot Clay Lick & Return to Puerto Maldonado

Before sunrise, we'll visit a nearby Parrot Clay Lick, one of the most colorful wildlife experiences in Tambopata. At first light, parrots and parakeets begin gathering near the exposed clay bank to consume mineral-rich clay. Among the species regularly observed are Blue-headed Parrots, Dusky-headed Parakeets, Chestnut-fronted Macaws, Blue-headed Macaws and several species of small green parrots.
